Dr. Mullican graduated with research honors in 1988 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. While waiting for his Texas license, he was on staff at Palmer College where he taught in the radiology department. In 1989 he began his practice in Dallas and within a few years, started two multiple clinics. In 1993, he earned his diplomate in clinical nutrition from the American Chiropractic Board of Nutrition and his certified clinical nutrition degree from the University of New York in 1996. After joining Breakthrough Coaching in 2000, he converted both highly successful multiple clinics to DC/MD practices as well as his own chiropractic practice of 11 years. All have become very successful multidisciplinary clinics.
Kathy is known as one of our profession’s premiere Medicare, compliance, billing, and documentation experts. She knows her stuff, and consistently rates as one of the most informative, and entertaining speakers we have. Now a Certified Medical Compliance Specialist (MCS-P), a Certified Professional Chiropractic Coder (CCPC) and a Certified Clinical Chiropractic Assistant (CCCA), Kathy’s super-power is that she makes these difficult subjects simple, easy to understand, and, most importantly, easy to implement. In 2007, Kathy founded KMC University, the profession’s go-to for practice analysis and training on these subjects. Her team is the largest team of certified specialists under one roof in the profession, and has over 250 years’ experience in chiropractic, including Kathy’s 37 years of service to the profession. Dr. Tim Bertelsman, DC, CCSP, FACO, graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic with honors and has been practicing in Belleville, Illinois, since 1992. He is a board-certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and a Diplomate of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists. He has lectured nationally on various clinical and business topics and has been published extensively. He is a post-graduate instructor for the University of Bridgeport Orthopedic Diplomate program and is a member of the NCMIC Speakers’ Bureau. Dr. Bertelsman was selected as the Illinois Chiropractic Society Chiropractor of the Year in 2019. He has served in various leadership positions within the Illinois Chiropractic Society, including president of the executive board.

After several years of running a successful practice in Rochester, NY, Dr. Pedley moved on to a radiology residency at National University of Health Sciences and then to a visiting radiology fellowship at Duke University. She currently runs a radiology consulting practice for MR imaging centers in Redlands, CA. She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University and is the past President of the American Chiropractic College of Radiology.
Marc Abla, CAE has been with the Illinois Chiropractic Society for 20 years and has extensive knowledge surrounding many compliance and legal-related issues surrounding the chiropractic profession. He is a Certified Association Executive and a graduate of the Certified Leadership Series through the Illinois Society of Association Executives. Additionally, he is a member of the Illinois Society of Association Executives, the American Society of Association Executives, serves on the Board of Directors for the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations, and is currently the Chairman of the Leadership Committee for the Chiropractic Future Strategic Plan.
Ben Schwarm brings a wealth of experience in government relations, advocacy and member service from a successful career at previous member-driven organizations. He has worked with state legislators, members of Congress and governors to bring positive results and find common sense solutions to legislative problems. Ben is a graduate of Illinois State University where he concentrated on Mass Communications and Public Relations.
Dr. Mike Powell has been teaching other doctors for over 20 how to have a greater impact on their patients by applying functional neurology. He is on the faculty of the Carrick Institute, past president of the Iowa Board of Chiropractic, and current district director for the Iowa Chiropractic Society. Dr. Powell lectures to chiropractic physicians, educators, brain injury specialists, rehab providers and support groups.
